The Calumet region in the northwest corner of Indiana concentrates more heavy electrical load into a few square miles than anywhere else we buy. Integrated steel at Gary, Burns Harbor and East Chicago, the refineries at Whiting and the industrial gas plants that feed them all run rectifier transformers, medium-voltage switchgear and bus systems at genuine utility scale. South of there, Indianapolis pharmaceutical and logistics facilities and the RV and boat plants around Elkhart operate on a completely different rhythm and release smaller, cleaner switchboards and panelboards. Evansville aluminum and the Ohio River generating stations round it out. NIPSCO coal plant retirements have been putting well-documented substation equipment on the market for several years running.
