Process
How Michigan jobs actually run
Utility territory matters here more than most owners expect: DTE Energy, Consumers Energy, Lansing Board of Water and Light each have their own disconnect and metering process, and the sequence of who de-energizes what is usually the longest lead item on the schedule.
Freight is the other half. We route Michigan work along I-94, I-75, I-96 and I-69, which is what keeps trailer and crew cost predictable on a quote instead of padded.
Michigan work is tooling-cycle work. Stamping plants, body shops and powertrain lines across the Detroit metro and down the I-94 corridor reconfigure on model changeovers, and each changeover frees motor control centers, drive cabinets, dry-type transformers and feeder cable. The plants that close outright release whole electrical scopes, including gear from the 1960s and 70s that operators elsewhere are still hunting to match. Grand Rapids office furniture and food processing, the Midland chemical complex and the foundries around Saginaw and Muskegon add to it. DTE Energy and Consumers Energy both run large distribution replacement programs. Michigan is also where we see the most unit substations still sitting energized on the pad, which is fine — we handle the de-energized removal.

Michigan questions
Are you insured to work inside our Michigan facility?
Yes. We carry general liability, auto, workers' compensation and umbrella coverage, and we issue a certificate naming your entity as additional insured before crews mobilize to Michigan. We also complete vendor onboarding, background checks and site-specific safety orientation on request.
Can you work nights, weekends or during a shutdown in Michigan?
Regularly. Most electrical removals happen outside production hours because that is when circuits can be released. Night, weekend, holiday and turnaround windows in Michigan are normal scheduling for us, not a premium service.
What happens to the equipment after you buy it?
Serviceable gear is tested, reconditioned where needed and resold as replacement equipment — that resale is what funds your offer. What cannot go back into service is dismantled for copper, aluminum and steel recovery through permitted processors, with regulated fractions documented.
Do you buy equipment that is still energized and in service?
Yes, and most of what we buy is. We quote it now and remove it on your cutover date. Telling us at the quote stage which Michigan assets are still live lets us build the phasing and the clearance coordination into the schedule from the beginning.
Our electrical room is in a basement with a tight door. Is that a problem?
It is routine. Switchgear sections, transformers and gensets frequently have to be cut down or partially disassembled to clear a door width, an elevator limit or a stair turn. The access survey at your Michigan site establishes the path before we commit to a date, and that cost is already inside the offer.
